Attack on Titan.
Very dramatic anime, lots of violence and blood. I had originally watched it when I was in high school, but now that new season has come out I revisited the series. It follows a group of humans locked behind walls that protect them from giant monsters. One young man's mother is killed, and he vows to destroy these "Titans" once and for all. As the story progresses, we learn more and more about the origin of these monsters, and the people who are secretly working against humanity.
A lot of casual speech is used by the younger characters, slang, etc. Many times there are phrases that sound like what I've learned in class but have completely different meanings. I'm looking to find more anime with written Japanese in the show so that I can continue to practice my reading. Some anime have an option to put both English and Japanese subtitles, so I turn that on when I can, but any suggestions or recommendations are welcome!

Listening 10/13/2019
Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith
While of course some of the words were made for the Star Wars series, it was very interesting to here how the english sentences were translated into japanese during localization. I recognized words such as しっている、私たち、子ども (for the word "Younglings"). Several words were used in ways that I had not practiced in Japanese class, probably because they were for more hard to translate words.
It's quite nice to be able to watch something I am familiar with but from a completely new perspective. Especially finding new ways to use Japanese words, for english words that do not have easy translations, I will remember these examples and perhaps use similar translations if my own vocabulary is too limited.

Listening 10/7/19
I watched more of the series this past weekend, after I had finished studying. I find myself voluntarily stopping the program every once in a while to see if I can parse the sentences together and get the same or similar meaning to what the subtitles say, although I have also found that the subtitles do not always translate perfectly to what the Japanese text says.
It is a lot easier to recognize a lot of the words I learned last year. There is the problem that it can be hard when they speak especially fast, but practice is essential, especially when native speakers will speak at a fast pace. It is interesting to also hear about places in Japan that I have heard of or even been to before. Makes it all a bit more real...even if anime is not exactly representative of Japan overall :p
